Learning to identify birds by sound can greatly enrich your birding experience.  When you know the songs of common birds, unfamiliar songs stand out and alert you to the presense of different or unusual birds.  Similar species of some groups of birds can only be told apart by their calls.  Audio ID Guides come in two general formats, CDs and hand-held units.  Choose a category below to learn more about what we offer.

Proper Use

Audio recordings of birds are sometimes played through speakers by people seeking to entice birds out into the open so the bird can be more easily seen.  This can place stress on birds, as time spent investigating the recording is time that would otherwise be spent feeding, nesting, caring for the young, or other activities that are important to their survival.  Play-back of bird songs and calls should not be used during the breeding season and used only sparingly during the non-breeding season.
